Summary
The Seal Beach Police Department published its crime numbers for 2025. Overall, reported crime went down. The total number of Group A offenses, the serious crimes the FBI tracks, fell from 1,448 in 2024 to 1,322 in 2025, a drop of 8.7 percent.
The numbers are grouped three ways. Crimes against people, such as assault and sex offenses, stayed about the same: 174 in 2024 and 173 in 2025. Crimes against property, the largest group, fell about 5 percent, from 1,003 to 952. Crimes against society, mostly drug and weapons offenses, fell about 27 percent, from 271 to 197.
Several specific crimes dropped sharply. Robbery went from 18 to 10. Motor vehicle theft went from 30 to 21. Burglary went from 93 to 75. Drug violations went from 125 to 93. There were no murders in either year.
Some crimes went up. Reported rape went from 1 to 4. Fondling went from 4 to 6. Simple assault went from 49 to 60. Kidnapping or abduction went from 4 to 7. Counterfeiting and forgery went from 55 to 98. Arson went from 1 to 3.
Police activity during 2025 included 37,890 calls for service, 26,369 activities officers started on their own, 19,301 patrol checks, 20,577 parking citations, 1,983 traffic citations, 2,719 police reports, and 769 arrests. Officers cleared 488 of the 1,322 Group A offenses, about 37 percent.
One thing to keep in mind about the data: it comes from the state's NIBRS system, which counts victims of offenses rather than incidents, so one event can add several counts. Figures can also shift later as cases are cleared or reports are found to be unfounded.
